BABYLON, NY – Shortly before midnight on Sunday, September 7, 2008 the Babylon Fire Department was toned out for a Signal 26 in the vicinity of Lewis Circle / Fire Island Avenue. As first responding chief’s arrived on scene they updated dispatch stating they had a working boat fire in the slips on Lewis Circle.
Engine 1-2-3 arrived on scene and stretched a line. While they began their initial attack, a hydrant across the street from the boat was picked up. Crews made quick work of the fire knocking it down in seconds. Other units that arrived on scene shortly thereafter was Engine 1-2-5, Engine 1-2-6, Rescue Truck 1-2-7 and Marine Unit 1-2-12. An ambulance was also on scene standing by.
After knocking down the fire and overhauling the remains of the boat for any hidden fire, the scene was turned over to the SCPD Arson Squad for further investigation. It is currently unknown how the fire started at the time of this article.
