LINDENHURST, NY – A short pursuit ends with a woman in handcuffs and her vehicle into a building in Lindenhurst Friday afternoon. At 6:45 p.m. on Friday, June 20, 2008 Suffolk County Police responded to a disturbance at 55 Wilson Avenue in Copiague. When a 50 year old woman, Dawn Harris, attempted to flee the scene, she backed into a police officer’s car door as he was getting out, knocking him to the ground.

Harris was then spotted in the Merrineck Shopping Center where she struck four parked cars. Once again she fled the scene and headed eastbound towards Lindenhurst. This is where she was finally taking into custody, after driving into the Four of a Kind Contracting offices located at 481 Montauk Highway. She was placed into police custody and an ambulance was called to the scene to evaluate her injuries. She was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital in West Islip with minor injuries via a Lindenhurst Fire Department ambulance.

The officer that Harris struck suffered minor injuries and was transported to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore via a Copiague Fire Department ambulance. Harris is charged with second-degree assault, driving while intoxicated, leaving the scene of an accident and unlawfully fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle.
